Abstract
|
|
|
Objective : The purpose of this study was to conduct a qualitative study to understanding of the work experiences of night nurses in long-term care hospitals for the elderly.
Methods : The interview questions began with the question, “What is your experience of working as a night nurse in long-term care hospitals?” to allow participants to speak naturally, and the Colaizzi phenomenological analysis methodology was used.
Results : The study found six components: ‘working hours based on their own needs’, ‘burdened by night shift work’, ‘discomfort from communication gaps between the organization and others’, ‘fading mind and body’, ‘crutches that make them endure’, and ‘need for improved institutional treatment’.
Conclusion : This study will contribute to the improvement of the quality of nursing care by providing a basis for the development of systems and strategies to improve the work environment and job satisfaction of long-term care hospitals night nurses.
